چکیده
Background: Pseudoexfoliation syndrome (PEX) is a complex systemic disorder of the extracellular matrix primarily affecting eye and visceral organs. In this age-related disease fibrillar material produced accumulates in many ocular extraocular tissues. Objective: To study prevalence pseudoexfoliation among patients with sensorineural hearing loss. Patients Methods: A cross-sectional study, conducted on 50 loss at departments Ophthalmology Otolaryngology Aswan University Hospital, was performed aged years older both sexes were included while history acute ear disease, head trauma, long term exposure to heavy noise, intake ototoxic drugs chronic suppurative otitis media (cholesteatoma) excluded. Results: The PEX SNHL estimated current as 36%. mean age 61 (±7.1) ranged from 77 old. majority participants (35 patients, 70%) female. Thirty-three (66%) had co-morbidities. Unilateral represented by 10 (55.6%), bilateral 8 (44.4%). Conclusion: This establishes reciprocal association between main reason for remains unclear although infiltrative nature can still explain concurrence.

Pseudoexfoliation Syndrome and Sensorineural Hearing Loss
Introduction: Pseudoexfoliation syndrome (PXS) occurs due to the deposition of extracellular fibrillar materials on the anterior chamber of the eye. This syndrome has been considered to be part of a systemic disease with the potential involvement of the inner ear called sensoroneural hearing loss (SNHL). In this study, we aimed on evaluating SNHL within PXS patients in Iran to compare them wi...

OBJECTIVE To determine the possible relation between pseudoexfoliation (PSX) and sensorineural hearing loss. METHODS This study was carried out in Afyon Kocatepe University, Afyon, Turkey between July 2002 and June 2005. Sixty-three patients who were found to have ocular PSX on routine biomicroscopic examination, and 38 age-matched control subjects were evaluated for evidence of audiometric a...
